SPRING HILL, Florida — Fancy Ketchup may have survived 30 hours in a freezer, but the pooch will need more than pizza rolls and ice cream to escape death this time.
Fancy Ketchup is slated to be euthanized after biting the mayor’s 6-year-old son at a ceremony in the dog’s honor.
“Unfortunately, we have no records of this dog’s shots, so we have no choice but to label him a rabies threat and destroy him,” mayor Richard Matlick said. “Fancy Ketchup truly is a tragic hero this week.”
Matlick’s son, Dean, was petting the dog at the ceremony and touched Fancy Ketchup’s ears, apparently a trigger for the abused pup, and “nipped him good,” those who witnessed the bite said.
Fancy Ketchup gained worldwide fame last week when news of his survival spread. After ruining his owner’s online video game, the dog was thrown into a freezer for more than a day, where he survived on Totino’s Pizza Rolls and ice cream until another gamer alerted the police.
