SPRING HILL, Florida — A local painter decided to make Purple Rain out of some mortal pain.
Wallace Pretzler put a fresh coat of purple paint on the previously pink dinosaur on U.S. 19, turning one of Spring Hill’s most iconic landmarks into an homage to the late musician Prince, who was found dead at his recording studio complex on Thursday.
“I’ve loved Prince my whole life, and I’ve loved this dinosaur since my family moved here in 1999,” Pretzler said. “I was at home over the weekend, really depressed about things, and started thinking about small ways I could honor Prince. Then this popped into my head, and even though it seemed like a big project, I thought, ‘Let’s go crazy.’”
Pretzler’s paint job was just one of many Prince tributes popping up around Hernando County since the star’s passing. Others include:
Magnolia Terrace Tea Room has created a blend called “When Doves Chai”
Fantastic Sam’s has a “Purple Mane” promotion featuring 50 percent off purple dyes

In other tribute news, the Harold’s Auto dinosaur has donned a thong in honor of the late performer Sisqo.
